Rwanda's savings- and credit corporation becomes more professional
Rural corporation ITI works in a remote region in Rwanda's one of hillsides. The corporation offers savings- and credit facilities to poor farmers. They mainly grow tea and agricultural crops in this fertile region. ITI is working on professionalising the corporation at the moment.
Advisor for financial institutes in the African Great Lake region
The Great Lake region is one of the poorest regions in Africa. Moreover, it has suffered from conflicts for long periods of time, as well as from it being unsafe. After the wars in Rwanda and Burundi it has succeeded however to set up a micro-financial sector. Different local institutions provide small credit to poor people in cities and in the country. Terrafina has a cooperative relationship with a number of these organisations. Terrafina is ICCO's microfinance programme in Africa, which it set up together with Oikocredit and the Rabobank Foundation.
Solid foundation for new network of financial institutes in Rwanda
Amir is a new network of microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Rwanda that was founded in 2007. Within the sector a lot of changes stand to happen. MFIs therefore are in need of a strong lobbying network.
Shift from youth work to chain development
Strengthening the position of 15 Rwandese corporations who started processing bananas and growing peppers for export purposes. That is what this project is all about. Cooperation is being sought with local entrepreneurs and with the savings- and credit corporation which was set up in the period prior to this project. Apart from providing information on agriculture and organisational development AJEMAC provides services to corporations. Transportation for instance, desk supplies and advice on management and financial administration. During this period of the project these activities are bundled to become an independent commercial company.
Theological education for peace in Rwanda
Ethnic tension has resulted in severe bloodshed in Rwanda and its neighbouring countries. The Centre de Formation et de Documention (CFD) is an institute which promotes bible knowledge with people to enhance religion and its influence amongst people. CFD wants to use it to prevent bloodshed. CFD was founded by the EPR (Eglise Presbytérienne au Rwanda).
Shelter and education for Rwanda's orphans
Independent foundation Mwana Ukundwa (AMU) in Rwanda takes care orphans in their own surroundings or within foster families. AMU acquired the status of non-governmental organisation in 2003. Since 2002 the foundation started a programme on education about HIV/Aids which is meant for children. ICCO and Kerk in Actie support AMU's activities.
