Food security
We live in a world in which farmers produce enough food to feed everyone. However, a large part of the world's population goes hungry every day and over 800 million people are malnourished. Food prices have risen over the past eight years. That is a catastrophe for people in developing countries who sometimes spend three quarters of their income on food.
Together with Kerk in Actie, ICCO has been supporting food security programmes for over 40 years. These programmes are implemented by local partner organisations.

ICCO's "Project de Securité Alimentarie" in Madagaskar helps enhance the availability of food for the local population through the improvement of production and storage. Access to food is also improved by raising people's income through the cultivation of commercial crops. In addition, developing vegetable plots has increased the availability of healthy foods. In combination with education of the local people, good use of food has improved significantly.
One of the outcomes of this project has been that malnourishment among children below the age of three dropped from 32% to 23% over the course of one year.

Together with Kerk in Actie, ICCO has been supporting food security programmes for over 40 years. Their ample experience with these matters underpins their food security policy 2007 -2010.
The food security policy 2007-2010 is a key component in the business plan 2007-2010 of the ICCO Alliance, a collaboration of six Dutch development organisations.
